Fine Stream Gamelan in concert!

Folks, there are a few things that I think we’re really blessed to have with us here in Tucson. Rare and beautiful things. One of them is the Fine Stream Gamelan, bringing to us some truly mesmerizing, wondrous music from the Indonesian archipelago.

On the night of May 8th, Fine Stream gave a concert at St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church to commemorate their 20th anniversary as a live performing ensemble (congratulations, and many, many more to come!), and I saved a delectable slice of the evening’s offerings for you on my trusty-ish Canon Powershot.

The selection performed here was the last of the night’s two-hour program, “Kembang Wuluh”; a Balinese gong kebyar piece composed by gifted Fine Stream founder and director Matt Finstrom, dedicated to the memory of his friend and fellow gamelan founding member Rolf Jordahl. Many of you will remember this amazing composition as the musical accompaniment to last year’s All Souls Procession grand finale. Enjoy!
